  • Station Merrimack World Premier

Description of Project

Pentucket Regional High School will host “Underground,” an interdisciplinary experience supported by the Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury local Cultural Councils on November 30 from 6:30pm -8:15pm at the high school.  “Underground,” will engage the audience with a world premiere concert band piece, a gospel piece, visual presentations and a film produced by the videography class.

The concert bands of the middle and high schools will combine for the world premiere of “Station Merrimack” by David Schumacher, a new programmatic piece that depicts the journey through the Underground Railroad.  The chorus will perform gospel works capturing the call and response style of the time.

Ninth grade students will showcase their research on local contributions in the Greater Newburyport area to the abolitionist cause and ultimately the Underground Railroad, and the video department will capture the historical significance of the three towns’ contributions to this movement using local historians and historical sites.

The goal is to provide students, parents and community members with an opportunity to showcase and explore the historical contributions of the Pentucket community to the abolitionist movement.

If you have local information that could augment students’ presentations please, email high school teachers  J.C. Honer  honer@prsd.org  or Anthony Beatrice  abeatrice@prsd.org.
